Striking and sculptural Mexican Modern pitcher designed and handcrafted in the 1960s by Los Castillo in Taxco, Mexico, one of the most important workshops within the Mexican silversmithing movement. This exceptional vessel embodies the organic elegance and material innovation that defined mid-century Mexican Modernism, alongside masters such as William Spratling, Salvador Pineda, and later Emilia Castillo.
Executed in solid brass with a silver-plated finish, the form features a beautifully hand-hammered lower body with a softly lobed silhouette. The elongated neck is meticulously inlaid with natural mother-of-pearl shell in alternating tones of soft pink and iridescent white, creating a luminous mosaic effect that shifts with light. The flowing handle echoes the verticality of the form, enhancing its sculptural presence.
This piece reflects the hallmark Taxco philosophy—melding traditional craftsmanship with modernist design, resulting in functional objects elevated to collectible works of art. The interplay between reflective metal and organic shell materials makes it equally suited for Mexican interior design, coastal modern spaces, or high-end curated collections.
The pitcher retains its original hallmark:
“Los Castillo, Taxco, Hecho en Mexico, Plateado, TA-01”
