Rare mid-century Mexican modern creamer and covered sugar set with matching serving tray, designed and manufactured in Taxco, Mexico by Fajardo during the 1960s.
The sculptural set is crafted from solid brass with silver plate and features striking toucan-form handles with lapis lazuli inlay, a highly recognizable decorative motif associated with expressive mid-century Taxco design and Mexican silversmithing traditions. The birds’ beaks are made from solid brass, creating a beautiful contrast against the silver-plated surfaces and deep blue lapis lazuli.
Both the creamer pitcher and covered sugar pot display elegant repoussé decoration that appears to represent a stylized agave or botanical plant motif, reflecting the influence of traditional Mexican plant forms in modernist decorative arts. The bold forms and carefully balanced proportions give the pieces a distinctive presence, demonstrating the refined craftsmanship and artistic quality that made Taxco an international center for Mexican silversmithing in the mid-20th century.
The oval serving tray features a wide border inlaid with lapis lazuli mosaic, complementing the toucan handles and creating a cohesive presentation across the entire set.
The creamer pitcher and the sugar pot are stamped:
“Fajardo – Taxco – Mexico – Plateado.”
This mark indicates silver plating over brass, a technique widely used in mid-century Taxco metalwork and Mexican silversmithing for decorative hollowware and table service.
The set works beautifully as coffee service, decorative tabletop display, or barware, and is an excellent example of Mexican modern design and traditional Taxco silversmithing craftsmanship.
With its sculptural toucan handles, rich lapis lazuli inlay, and bold mid-century design, this set makes a striking decorative accent for a cocktail bar, coffee service, or curated tabletop display. Pieces from Taxco’s golden era of Mexican silversmithing continue to be highly sought after by collectors and interior designers for their unique craftsmanship, vibrant materials, and strong visual presence in both modern and traditional interiors.
