This is a handsome midcentury modern 3-bay wall unit made of walnut veneer with cane panel doors. The pieces are unsigned but similar in quality and style to those designed by American of Martinsville and Jack Cartwright for Founders.
The wall unit includes 3 individual bays, which can be used together or separately. All sides are finished in beautifully grained walnut veneer, including the back, which means they can be floated in a room to serve as a room divider. One of the bays has open shelving on the top and bottom and a drop down leaf in the middle. The leaf opens into a durable white laminate surface, which can be used as a desk or a bar, and the cubbies provide additional storage for office supplies or cocktail sundries. The other two bays are identical and each have woven cane paneled doors with brass pulls on top, which open to reveal a storage space with a single adjustable shelf. The bottom solid panel doors with black metal knobs conceal additional hidden storage space with a single adjustable shelf, and the center section consists of open shelving.
The 1960s era wall unit is in good vintage condition. The construction is extremely sturdy and solid. The doors and drop leaf function perfectly. Age-related wear and losses on the walnut veneer, including scuffs on the bottom corners and paint residue. Some breakages in the cane panels. [Note: If you want to replace the cane panels, this specific type of cane is called radio weave.] Please see photos for more details about the condition of this wall unit.
If used together, the 3-bay wall unit measures 91” wide, 16” deep, and 77.5” tall. Each bay measures 30.25” wide. The bays are not attached and can be transported in 3 pieces.
