We are not certain the particular design, however one … Read more An intriguing set of six black leather and sculpted wood armchairs. We are not certain the particular design, however one chair retains a Cassina / Atelier International label from circa 1980s (see photos). The construction does match the circa 1980s era, with the dust cover fabric underneath the seats and staples. Also the quality leather hides are indicative of this era.

The design is very similar to the Progetti armchair by Giorgetti, originally designed in 1987 and then redesigned for production in 1996. It is possible that Cassina and AI distributed for them at this time. The current Progetti design however is slightly different, but the current design is based on a 1996 revision and it is possible the original 1987 design was this set of arm chairs.

The swooping sculpted arms are subtle but graceful and classy, and the thick yet droopy black leather provides a very comfortable seat, closer to that of a club chair yet still in the form of a dining captains chair or stand alone armchair.

This set of black leather armchairs would work great in a Mid-Century Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Postmodern room. Also consider mixing it up in a traditional, classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Being highly durable, this arm chair would also be an Apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. Consider using as a side chair, dining, cafe or breakfast table chair, bedside chair, fireside chair, dressing or changing room chair, hallway chair, entryway or mudroom chair, nursing or reading chair, conference room chair, office or desk chair, guest chair, lobby chair, lounge chair or occasional chair ideal in virtually any setting.
