This stunning hand-knotted Oushak mat brings a vibrant pop of color and authentic Anatolian character to any small space. Its compact size makes it a perfect choice for entryways, kitchen sinks, or as a soulful accent in a bathroom.
Originating from the Aegean region of Turkey during the 1970s, this piece reflects the transition from classical motifs to the village-style interpretations of the Oushak tradition. These rugs were often woven by local artisans using surplus wool from larger loom projects, resulting in unique, one-of-a-kind designs. Over the decades, the wool has softened and the colors have mellowed into the beautiful vintage patina seen today.

■ Color Palette & Design Insight:
Vibrant Crimson · Steel Gray · Golden Ochre · Slate Blue
The bold red field is grounded by a large, stepped gray medallion, creating a striking contrast that works beautifully in both modern and eclectic settings. Its warm tones and geometric structure make it an ideal grounding piece for high-traffic areas that need a touch of artisanal texture.
■ Motifs & Symbolism:
The central stepped diamond medallion is a hallmark of Oushak weaving, often symbolizing a protective shield or the sanctity of the home. Surrounding the medallion are stylized Cengul or hook motifs, which in Anatolian tradition represent protection and the desire for a cohesive family unit. The vibrant yellow corner elements add a solar energy to the piece, symbolizing joy and abundance.
■ Care & Clean:
Vacuum gently without a beater bar, rotate for even wear, and use a rug pad; spot clean with mild soap and water when needed.

■ What Is a Turkish Rug?:
A Turkish rug is a hand-knotted masterpiece, crafted using the symmetrical Ghiordes knot—a double-knot technique unique to the Anatolian weaving tradition. These authentic vintage textiles are made from 100% natural wool and organic vegetable dyes, ensuring durability and a rich, soulful character that machine-made rugs cannot replicate. Each rug tells a story through ancient geometric symbols and tribal motifs, bringing timeless heritage and artisanal warmth to modern interior designs.
