A striking and highly decorative pair of Chinese porcelain ginger jar lamps featuring the auspicious “Double Happiness” (囍 / Shuangxi) motif, rendered in a vibrant iron-red over a crackle-glazed ground.
Traditionally associated with joy, marriage, and prosperity, the Double Happiness symbol is one of the most recognizable and culturally significant motifs in Chinese decorative arts—making this pair not only visually compelling but rich in symbolism and storytelling.
Each lamp is formed from a classic ginger jar silhouette, historically used for storing spices and valuables, and later adapted for Western interiors during the height of the Chinoiserie revival in the mid-20th century.
The porcelain bodies are intricately decorated with:
Repeating Double Happiness characters
Stylized scrolling vine patterns
A subtle crackle glaze (craquelure) indicating a kiln-fired ceramic technique
Traditional Greek key border at the shoulder
Mounted on carved wood bases and topped with warm brass hardware, the lamps retain their original vintage character while offering a timeless, collected-over-time aesthetic.
Likely mid-20th century (circa 1940s–1970s) Chinese export, produced for the Western market during the height of Chinoiserie popularity.

Porcelain (crackle glaze)
Brass hardware
Carved wood bases
