A hand-painted leopard-form mug by Ardmore Ceramics, South Africa, dated May 2019.
This sculptural vessel is modeled and painted in Ardmore’s distinctive style, combining functional form with richly detailed surface decoration. The leopard’s face is rendered with remarkable subtlety, its expression composed and alert, while the surrounding patterning of foliage and florals unfolds across the body in layered, rhythmic detail.
The underside is fully signed: MH 171, May 2019, made by George & Victor and painted by Nciswe for Ardmore Ceramics. As with all Ardmore works, both sculptor and painter are individually credited, reflecting the collaborative studio practice and ensuring each piece is unique.
A compelling example of contemporary South African ceramic artistry; equally suited as a functional object or as a sculptural accent within a layered interior.
