This piece is absolutely amazing! The top is banded in elm and has pegged construction. The central portion of the top is made up from solid planks of solid burl elm.

The top follows down to paneled sides with scalloped skirts. In the front of the case, there are two doors, also hand raised paneled, and also made from solid burl. The doors open to reveal shelving, and a lower candle drawer, because candles were a rare commodity, so they were better to be locked up in the 18th century. The skirt of this piece is scalloped and has a lovely hand carved floral and vase decoration. The buffet is then raised on simple feet in the back for easy placement against a wall and hand carved cabriole feet in the front, ending in scrolls for added elegance.

This is such a rare piece because of the use of solid burl, not veneer. Materials were very expensive, and building this piece out of solid burl takes it up to another level entirely. See less
