18th-Century Chinoiserie Style Commedia dell'Arte Oil Painting in the Manner of Andien De Clermont
after, and in the manner of Andien de Clermont (active 1716–1783). Inspired from celebrated series originally commissioned for the "Scaramouche Parlour" in 1742, this piece exemplifies the whimsical and grotesque charm of the Rococo era.
A classical monkey character from the Italian Commedia dell'Arte, framed by an elaborate, draped theatrical bower. Rich in detail, the work features festive pennant banners, a miniature ship crest, and various stage props that bring the 18th-century stage to life.
Housed in a beautifully weathered, rustic wood frame that complements the antique patina of the canvas.
