This is a large (12.5 inches) Portuguese ceramic plate featuring a hand carved green saw tooth edge and holes in the back for hanging. On a white background are hand painted colorful floral and repeat designs. It is decorated with green, blue and orange floral motifs (resembling thistles) including vines and leaves. There is no fading or crazing.
Clearly marked on the bottom, is the F and C (Fabrica Carvalhinho) monogram surrounded with the words "Carvalhinho" and "Porto." "Pintura a mao" indicates the piece is hand painted.
Ceramicade Carvalhinho was founded in 1841 and is a world renowned ceramic and tile factory. The previously described mark was used from the late 1950s - 1980's. The current owner received this plate as a wedding gift in 1982. (Proof that both are vintage!)
