This impressive 11 ¼ inch deep-form plate is a sophisticated example of Qing Dynasty blue and white porcelain. The central well features a prominent, stylized Shou (Longevity) medallion, framed by a border of delicate ruyi lappets. Radiating from the center are four dense rows of repetitive, hand-painted Sanskrit "Om" syllables, reflecting the deep Buddhist influence prevalent during the high Qing era.
The decoration is executed in a rich underglaze cobalt blue against a classic celadon-tinted white ground. The exterior is further detailed with four finely drawn Scholar’s Objects, providing a balanced scholarly aesthetic. The unglazed base and foot rim reveal a dense, period-correct porcelain paste.
While this distinctive pattern is traditionally associated with the Qianlong period (1736-1795) due to the Emperor’s personal Buddhist devotion, it remained a celebrated motif throughout the 19th century. Similar examples were notably recovered from the Diana shipwreck cargo (dated circa 1815), confirming the enduring appeal and historical significance of this specific design.
