The "RW " initials encased in a diamond shape with a crown above is the hallmark of Rudolstadt production in it's earliest years. The RW mark was registered with the German Trademark Registry on May 2, 1896. This brand was imported by the New York based company Straus and Sons (the family that owned Macy's). The collaboration was a family affair between members of the family based in America and Germany.
This beautiful piece has a beige background with handpainted pink, green, and brown cockatoos, branches and leaves, all gilded with gold. The artwork is highly evocative of an art deco style from the pink fan pattern on the top, to the geometric forms upon which the birds are perched, to the spiral handles. Notice the tiny perfect turquoise dots on each handle. Gold gilding is present on the base, the mid center, the leaf patterns, the opening and the handles. The detail on this piece is stunning. It stands 9 inches tall, 5 inches wide and has a diameter of 6 inches. See less
