Pair of early 20th-century French Regency slipper chairs featuring a distinctive hand-carved frame with a rare double-pierced crest rail. The crest displays two elongated cutouts joined by a carved bow and trailing garland motif, a highly specific pattern not commonly found in standard Louis XV forms.
The chairs have a strongly concave, inward-curving back that flows continuously into a serpentine seat, supported by tapered sabre legs with carved vertical panel detailing and rosette block elements. The apron features a central carved cartouche with symmetrical scrolling foliage.
Both chairs retain the original tufted velvet upholstery with traditional horsehair fill, supporting the quality of construction and period authenticity. The weight and structure are consistent with solid beech wood frames rather than the later lightweight reproductions.
Originally belonging to my grandmother, this pair was purchased in Brooklyn and likely originated from the European import design studio she frequented in the 1920s–1940s; this particular frame appears in only a small number of documented examples.
