This jadeite carving depicts Budai, the Laughing Buddha, rendered in a pale, translucent celadon green with subtle mottled textures. His face is captured in a joyous expression, featuring a wide, toothy grin, crescent-shaped eyes squeezed shut in laughter, and elongated earlobes that symbolize wisdom and longevity. The craftsmanship is smooth and polished, highlighting his rounded cheeks and the soft folds of his robes. He is shown clutching a small sack or gourd, an attribute signifying wealth and the containment of worldly troubles. On the reverse side, a tiny, precision-drilled stringing hole allows this piece to be worn as a pendant or attached to a decorative cord.
