Auguste Rodin's watercolor style, particularly the works produced in the last two decades of his life, is often referred to as instantanés (snapshots) characterized by a technique of drawing without looking at the paper to capture rapid movement, followed by the application of light, fluid watercolor wash and sometimes gouache.
The Jacomet process (Procédé Daniel Jacomet) is a high-quality 20th-century art reproduction method developed by Daniel Jacomet. It combines collotype (a photographic gelatin-based printing process) with pochoir, a manual stencil technique. Often used for facsimiles, it uses dozens of stencils to apply watercolor or gouache, creating prints nearly identical to the original.
While "Deux femmes enlacées" refers specifically to this pair, it fits into the broader thematic, artistic, and sometimes controversial, context of Rodin's depictions of women, which were often created amidst his tumultuous personal life, including his relationship with Camille Claudel.
Acquired by the Musée Rodin and custom-framed by The Maralyn Wilson Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia, this piece is truly a rare find and will be a treasured additional to your collection. The print measures approximately 12 1/2 inches high by 9 1/2 inches wide, framed to 19 inches high by 15 1/2 inches wide.
