The Wirgin Edinex was a landmark achievement for the Wiesbaden-based Wirgin brothers, representing their first foray into the 35mm "miniature" camera market in the mid-1930s. Its distinctive, rounded cast-metal body was engineered for both durability and ergonomics, while the clever collapsible lens design allowed it to remain remarkably compact for travel. Though the company’s history was tragically interrupted in 1938 when the brothers were forced to flee Germany, the Edinex lived on under the Adox brand, eventually becoming a foundational piece of German photographic history. Today, this camera is celebrated by collectors as a beautiful example of Art Deco-era industrial design and a precursor to the high-precision German viewfinders that would dominate the post-war era.
