Carol Summers ( 1925-2016 … Read more This is a beautiful and colorful print inspired by his international trips to India and elsewhere. Carol Summers ( 1925-2016 ) became a master printmaker starting in the 1950's. He pioneered his own innovative and universally recognized technique to make hand-carved woodblock prints. His technique was to carve and ink the block, place a blank sheet of paper on top of the block and rub the paper so that the ink would seep through the surface of the paper. This created a positive image instead of a reverse or mirror image of the block. After the ink pushed through the paper he sprayed mineral spirits on the paper to soften or blur the hard edges. The result was a bold, fully saturated, beautifully colored original art print. His work is generally referred to as abstract landscape prints.

He gained notoriety at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, when in 1964 they offered him his first one-man show at MOMA. This show eventually toured throughout the Unites States, giving him prestige as a recognized and professional American printmaker. Over the years he received multiple grants and fellowships, allowing him to travel the world and demonstrate his unique technique to new audiences. His travels inspired him and fostered new ideas for his upcoming works as he gained a growing worldwide audience. See less
