This is an original antique print from ca 1845 (seal was used from 1843-1847) and has been newly framed. This woodblock print can be found in the Ukiyo-E.org database.

ARTIST: Utagawa Kunisada (1786 – 1864), also known as Toyokuni III, is considered one of the great masters of ukiyo-e woodblock prints and was by far the most popular, prolific and commercially successful woodblock print artist of the Edo era. During his five-decade long career, he was even more popular than his contemporaries Hokusai, Hiroshige and Kuniyoshi. Kunisada is known for his prints of kabuki actors, plays, beautiful women (Bijin-Ga), sumo and Genji scenes. Kunisada was an apprentice of Toyokuni I (1769-1825). He signed his prints Kunisada until 1844, after which he adopted the name Toyokuni III. He collaborated with Hiroshige and Kuniyoshi on a number of series.

Condition: Good condition for age – some imperfections. Please note that antique and vintage artworks may have traces of time, stains, creases and fading due to age, so please review all photos.
