Executed in dark red lacquered wood, the piece reflects the designer's characteristic synthesis of Japanese formal restraint and the experimental climate of Italian postwar design. After moving to Bologna in 1957, Takahama began a long collaboration with Dino Gavina, becoming one of the key figures in the company's design program. The chest's compact proportions (55 × 45 × H 73 cm) and essential geometry correspond to the rational approach that distinguished Gavina's production during the decade, prior to the company's integration into Knoll in 1968.
