An exceptional wooden sideboard or enfilada, with four carved front panels, attributed to the style of the renowned Spanish designer Rafael García, 1970s. The piece stands on four slender saber legs, and the top features a fine satin varnish that enhances the warm tone of the wood.
The great uniqueness of this piece lies in its beautiful hand-carved front panel, made of natural wood, which depicts a landscape of animals and plants, creating an atmosphere that evokes a natural ecosystem. Decorative elements of flora and fauna, such as deer, squirrels, and peacocks in their natural habitat among foliage and palm trees, are included, set against a spectacular backdrop of rolling mountains.
The storage space is divided into two sections, each with double doors. The key is included, although the lock should be checked. The interior features a dividing shelf, also with a satin-finish varnish. The narrative of this visual aesthetic fosters the creation of a unique and singular creative environment, aiming to integrate the piece into an exceptional setting—a space with soul.
Rafael García Nicolau (1914-2007), father of the architect Álvaro García Luján and recipient of the Medal of Honor from the Official College of Architects of Madrid in 1996, was a leading figure in the field of decoration and furniture during the second half of the 20th century, encompassing all facets of his work: design and creation, the manufacture of original and imported elements of the Modern Movement, the integration of furniture with architecture and other major and minor arts, and the dissemination of his ideals and the defense of the profession. His career is part of the history of interior design in Spain, evolving from the tradition of Valencian furniture to the creation of his own style with a much more modern inspiration. So much so that the international firm Knoll granted Rafael García an exclusive license to manufacture in Spain models by Mies van der Rohe, Bertoia, and Saarinen, among others. He was also one of the driving forces behind the National College of Decorators, which he presided over during its initial phase.
Among his notable works are the decoration of the Gran Vía cinemas, the Los Sótanos shopping center, and the legendary Pasapoga restaurant—all in Madrid. He has also worked in Morocco, the United States, and Latin America. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
