Pair of antique 19th century French Louis XVI marquise armchairs, fully restored in Scalamandré silk damask.
The finely carved frames have classical fluted legs, scroll-form arm supports, rais-de-cœur motifs, rosettes, and a bow-carved crest rail accented by petite finials flanking the upper back.
Each chair has been fully restored with all-new padding and upholstered in Scalamandré 100% silk damask in a neutral porcini/taupe tone. Choice of fabric was consistent with historic preservation focus of the restoration. Loose goose down cushions with invisible zipper closure for easy removal.
The frames retain their original finish, which appears to be gilt over gesso. The finish is worn and faded consistent with nearly 200 years of age. Some evidence of shrinkage separations not impacting chair stability.
