An antique Austrian Tarock playing card deck by C. Titze & Schinkay, Vienna, dating to the late 19th century, circa 1880s. The complete deck is lithographed with hand-coloring and features richly detailed traditional court, numeral, and trump designs in the Central European Tarock format.
The Ace of Hearts bears a tax stamp, a desirable period detail supporting the deck’s age and origin. Card backs feature a black and red zigzag pattern. The cards are uncoated and retain the stiff feel and surface character typical of early paper playing cards.
A striking example of 19th-century Viennese paper ephemera, suitable for collectors of antique playing cards, gaming history, Austrian decorative arts, and curiosity cabinet objects.
