Original mid-19th century hand-colored octavo lithograph after John James Audubon, depicting the Louisiana Tanager (now commonly identified as the Western Tanager), with two males and one female perched on a branch.
Marked No. 42 at upper left and Pl. 210 at upper right, with “Drawn from Nature by J.J. Audubon, F.R.S. F.L.S.” in the lower left margin and “Lith. Printed & Col’d by J.T. Bowen, Philad.” in the lower right margin. Originally issued as a plate from Audubon’s octavo Birds of America series.
Presented in a later gilt-tone frame with a fabric mat. A charming and highly decorative natural history print that works beautifully in traditional, English, study, library, or collected interiors.
