An iconic floor lamp crafted by the prestigious Murano glassworks around 1970.
This model, nicknamed "Gli Organi," is the most sought-after and striking version thanks to its structure featuring five cylindrical elements of varying heights. The shades are made of fine hand-blown Murano glass, characterized by a delicate, iridescent finish that ensures a soft, atmospheric diffusion of light.
The structure rests on a solid base made of satin-finished steel, typically "technical" and matte in appearance.
The varying heights are due solely to the metal bases, as the glass spindles are all the same length and interchangeable.
Space Age Design: The concept of the "luminous cylinder" or "tube" was a cornerstone of 1970s space-age aesthetics. The aim was to move away from traditional lamps with shades to create objects that looked like they belonged on a space station or in a futuristic laboratory. It is a sort of "luxury" or artisanal Space Age. The contrast in materials also helps reinforce its Space Age characteristics: cold steel combined with frosted opal glass served to create a soft, almost “nebula-like” lighting effect, very much in line with the galactic imagery of the era.
The lamp is in excellent condition; the electrical system has been overhauled and all six light points are functional (five with glass shades and one in the center). Using the foot switch, you can turn on—in sequence—all the lights, or just the outer ones, or just the central one.
The glass spindles are in perfect condition; there is only a tiny chip on the edge of one piece (see photo), which is completely invisible since it is set into the base.
We have thoroughly cleaned the piece without removing the steel’s subtle patina.
