The technique offers a matte texture rather than a shiny finish. The characters on the base translate to "Made in the Zhengde reign of the Great Ming Dynasty." The Zhengde reign existed between 1505–1521. It was led by Zhu Houzhao who ascended to the throne when he was a young teenager. He was a controversial leader with ethical issues whose reign was quite tumultuous. See less
