Offering a one-of-a-kind Italian Majolica terracotta table lamp by San Zeno Pottery, circa 1930s. This rare unique faience style table lamp has been updated with a new clear electrical cord and a new internal socket for safety reasons. The brass hardware was left in it original tarnished condition respecting its collectability.
The lamp depicts hand painted flowers on a light peach/terracotta colored background. There are four "Amphora" style three dimensional handles attached to the body of the lamp imitating the green petals of the flowers. It is signed on the bottom: S. Zeno with the traditional incised ship logo, Made-in-Italy 557.
This marvelous lamp is guaranteed to be authentic San Zeno Pottery from Pisa, Italy and seldom comes on the market in the United States in any condition and is a true collector's piece. The pottery is extremely scarce and the lamps are almost impossible to find especially in this size and condition.
EXCELLENT VINTAGE CONDITION. No chips, No cracks, some crackling to the glaze appropriate with age and one small defect on the lamp body that occurred during manufacturing (See last photo). The new owner will be very happy about the condition of this lamp.
The San Zeno workshop was established to train young artisans, especially women, in traditional ceramic techniques inspired by 14th and 15th Century Pisan pottery. The school was only in existence for a short time (1920 - 1940) and most likely ended due to World War II when Italy joined Germany in 1940. The pieces often feature majolica glazing, intricate hand-painted motifs, and historical Italian Renaissance influences, making them highly collectible today.
