Antique Japanese tsukue writing desk with two front drawers, made of solid wood and dating from the late Taisho to early Showa period, circa 1910–1940.The tsukue was the traditional desk used in Japanese homes for writing, studying or administrative work. Its compact design allowed it to fit easily into domestic interiors while providing a practical working surface. The desk features a sturdy structure made of keyaki wood with straight legs and horizontal stretchers that provide stability. This type of construction reflects the functional character of early twentieth-century Japanese furniture. The front includes two drawers designed to store documents, writing tools or everyday objects. The round wooden pulls provide a subtle decorative detail that complements the restrained aesthetic of the piece. The surface retains a natural patina with signs of age and use, developed through decades of daily life. These marks contribute to the authenticity and character of antique Japanese furniture.Today this desk can function as a writing table, console or side table in contemporary interiors, particularly those inspired by japandi, wabi-sabi or minimalist design.
