PAIR OF BIRD OF PREY CARVINGS
Depicting a pair of birds of prey, believed to be falcons.
Carved in a stylised naive folky manner with a beautiful attention to details and excellent character.
They have a dry, weathered finish to the wood which has naturally worn to great effect.
A hard thing to date precisely but they have some age to them. I would say they are possibly 19th or early 20th century.
They were probably originally carved to be finials on top of a building or could have formed part of a wider carving on a piece of furniture or ship or similar.
They are in good vintage condition, they are naturally worn and aged which we think adds to their charm with naturally occurring cracks as well as some old dead woodworm which we have treated for good measure.
Approximate measurements each: 32cm high x 16.5cm wide x 16.5cm deep.
