Offered is a stunning, sophisticated pair of oversized hexagonal vases by renowned American ceramic artist John Shedd. Standing at an impressive 13.5 inches, these architectural vessels are masterclasses in high-fire reduction glazing, showcasing a dramatic Oxblood Flambé finish.
The glaze on these pieces is exceptionally dynamic: a rich, deep plum-red that "breaks" at the sharp hexagonal corners to reveal a luminous turquoise and lavender. The surface features intricate "Hare’s Fur" micro-crystalline streaking and "Oil Spot" details, a direct homage to ancient Chinese Jun and Jian ware traditions.
The hexagonal (six-sided) form provides a modern, geometric silhouette that feels both ancient and contemporary. Each piece is hand-incised on the base with the artist's signature "JS" mark.
