The Origin of "The Word on the Street"
A museum-caliber pair of foundational archive prints by acclaimed Los Angeles artist Scott Froschauer (b. 1970). Dated 1991, these large-format original screen prints represent the very birth of Froschauer’s career—decades before his iconic street sign sculptures were featured in the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
Historical Significance & Provenance
Acquired from the personal collection of a Hollywood set designer and close contemporary of the artist, these pieces are artifacts of the early 90s DTLA underground art scene. You can see the tag/s from when I personally aquired them from the designer's collection in Los Angeles. They were produced for a 1991 studio loft exhibition at the artist's historic 318 Omar St. address—a legendary hub for experimental media and "Theoretical Linguistics" exploration.
Archival Details:
The Unsigned Proof: Consistent with site-specific loft installations of the era, these works were designed as experiential "visual linguistic experiments." Rather than a traditional signature, they carry the artist's studio address integrated into the screen-printed graphic.
Medium: Hand-pulled screen print on heavy archival card stock.
Dimensions: 16 3/4" x 28" (each).
Condition: These are raw archival survivors. Both prints bear characteristic "tide-line" water staining and honest studio wear in the margins. For the serious collector, these markings are prized evidence of their 30-year history and loft-origin.
