This "Grand Scale" … Read more Offered is a premier example of Texas Biedermeier craftsmanship: a mid-19th-century Solid Walnut High-Tester bed (c. 1850s). This "Grand Scale" estate piece was crafted by master German immigrant cabinetmakers in Galveston, Texas, during the city's mid-century Golden Era.

The bed features a distinguished scrolled pediment headboard and robust "stacked" post architecture. The use of native Black Walnut highlights the exquisite natural grain and deep, chocolatey patina that has developed over nearly two centuries of single-family care. Constructed with masterful "puzzle" joinery, the entire frame assembles via interlocking wooden components with the use of some metal bolts.

Provenance:
The bed boasts documented, unbroken single-family ownership for over 170 years. Detailed genealogical provenance from the family historian is available to the purchaser. The piece can be traced from its original procurement in the mid-19th century to the present .

The original wooden canopy laths were replaced with removable custom metal rods (c. 1990s) for modern textile support. A custom-made tester soffit (ceiling cloth) in mint green will also be provided. This fabric panel was tailored to fit the internal rod system of the tester. See less
