It is a "transitional" … Read more This elegant piece is a Louis XV style oval side table, featuring a diamond/cube parquetry inlay. It is a "transitional" style with a matching lower shelf. The legs are solid mahogany with decorative gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts, both at the top and bottom. Specifically, leaf-like motifs at the "shoulders" and small sabots or feet at the base of the cabriole legs. There is also gilt-bronze banding around both tiers. The top and bottom tiers have parquetry centers with mahogany cross banding. The parquetry of this type commonly consisted of walnut, rosewood and/or kingwood. The apron of the table is finished in a complimentary banding of the same veneer combination.

The table is estimated to date to the early 20th century, but it's possible that it dates to the late 19th century. It was made in Spain (see underside photo for mark) and Spain produced most of their Louis XV furniture in the 1800s. The Spanish furniture makers were known for their craftsmanship excellence, and this lovely piece is clear evidence of that!
