Large scale Baroque fantasy oil on canvas of monumental classical buildings and statuary by Alain Menghini. The painting is signed bottom right and is presented in a p[lain gilt wood frame.
This captivating painting presents a dreamlike interpretation of an architectural landscape, where majestic edifices rise into a tumultuous, swirling sky. The painting evokes a sense of awe with its intricate detailing and dynamic brushwork, seamlessly blending classical architectural elements with an impressionistic style. The buildings, adorned with ornate sculptures and intricate facades, command attention, capturing the viewer's gaze through their grandiose presence. The swirling clouds above, depicted in rich, layered hues of blues and greys, create an atmosphere of both mystery and drama. The contrast between the solid structures and the fluid sky generates a compelling tension, inviting viewers to ponder the intersection of human civilization and the forces of nature. The artist's masterful use of light and shadow adds depth and dimension, enhancing the painting’s immersive quality. This piece uniquely balances tradition and imagination, offering a majestic yet enigmatic portrayal of architectural grandeur.
Alain Menghini is a French painter, fresco artist, illustrator and lithographer of Italian origin. He was born in Aubagne, southern France in 1945. His artistic style is a fusion between abstraction and figuration. His painting, of a very sensitive workmanship, strives to preserve the impressions of the world around him.
As a teenager, he wanted to become a painter and trained with his father, a painter himself in the art schools of Aubagne and Marseille. In his early days, he was part of the group of artists championed by gallery owner Madge Tivey-Faucon. He was then defended by the Nichido Gallery, which has been exhibiting him since 1972 both in Paris and in Japan. Menghini has also exhibited at the Musée du Luxembourg in Paris who devoted a solo exhibition to him. In 2000-2001, he decorated the Chapel of Saint Pierre on the Ile Saint-Denis.
