Rare Pair of ‘Concha’ Lounge Chairs by Carlo Hauner & Martin Eisler for Forma Móveis, Brazil, 1955. Authentic Frames, Expertly Reupholstered in Sand Bouclé. A masterful balance of sculptural elegance and tactile comfort, this exceptional pair of Concha (Portuguese for “shell”) lounge chairs was designed in 1955 by the influential Brazilian-Italian duo Carlo Hauner and Martin Eisler for Forma Móveis, a defining name in the modernist design movement of mid-century Brazil. The Concha chair’s defining feature is its gently curved, shell-like seat, designed to cradle the body, which rests on a minimalist, airy black-lacquered steel frame with elegant lines and finished with black plastic feet. This particular set retains its fully original frames, preserved in authentic vintage condition with age-appropriate wear to the painted metal, underscoring the chairs’ provenance and character. The upholstery has been expertly redone in a rich, sand-colored bouclé fabric that beautifully complements the organic form and tactile comfort of the original design. The new upholstery strictly adheres to the original pattern, including the signature tufted button detailing, preserving both the visual integrity and collector’s value of the chairs. Photos documenting the restoration process and the chairs’ original condition are available upon request. Literature; Móvel Moderno Brasileiro, Olhares. Page 226. A true statement in both form and history, the Concha chair is emblematic of the seamless dialogue between European modernism and Brazilian sensibility that Hauner and Eisler championed. Rarely available in such well-preserved, sympathetically restored condition, this set is ideal for connoisseurs, interior designers, and collectors seeking authenticity paired with livable luxury.
