New York Woodstock artist Eugene Arcieri (1914-2005). An artist that began painting at the age of 10 with a career that spans 70 years, his work has been shown in New York, Washington DC, and other parts of the country. A prolific listed artist that flew under the general radar, yet deeply respected by that around him. His work includes abilities such as abstract, impressionism, to surrealism.
Here we have one of his smaller surrealist works on board and framed by the artist. It is signed on the back. For us we're taken to Egypt with the Great Sphinx of Giza. But that's just what we see.
"[Arcieri] attended the Art Students League, studied the Masters in this country and in Italy, painted in the West – Wyoming and Idaho. He returned to New York City and settled in Greenwich Village among artist friends who formed groups and counter groups in the late 1930’’s to 1950’s. During the Depression he worked on the Federal Art’s Project and assisted Philip Guston on a New York World’s Fair mural in 1938. Arcieri exhibited widely in museums and galleries in New York, Washington, DC, the New England States and throughout the US. He was a founding member of the Spiral Group (New York City – 1950’s) and an active member of the Woodstock Artist’s Association (WAAM) where he served on the Board of Directors and as Chairperson of Exhibits in the 1980’s. Arcieri lived in Woodstock, NY from the 1950’s to his death in 2005." —Amity Gallery
