Fratelli Toso is one of the oldest glass factories of Murano, with a catalog of work spanning over 150 years. Founded in 1854 by six brothers of the Toso family, they opened in the wake of a period of doom and detriment from Napoleon’s occupation, which damaged Venice and its surrounding islands; Fratelli Toso represented Murano’s spark of hope after this period of uncertainty. The Toso family worked with Murano’s most famous glass masters, including those from the Ferro, the Barovier and the Zuffi families. They ultimately closed their doors in 1981, but left a legacy of master craftsmanship and a distinct influence in the development of Murano glass.
This set of seven salad plates and five fruit bowls are modeled on the beauty of nature, depicting flowers and organic shapes.
The plates are 7 3/4" diameter and the bowls are also 7" wide and 3" tall.
