This gorgeous mahogany parlor chair features a "hoop" or "balloon" back with a prominent curved crest rail that is carved and has exceptional grain. Additionally, there is a carved central pierced splat with a stylized scroll motif. It has cabriole legs in the front, splayed legs in the back and a slip seat. This chair likely dates from the mid-to-late 19th century. The slip seat is covered with a lovely floral tapestry-like fabric with a cream background, which was common for parlor furniture of that era, but is not the original fabric.
