A beloved Uhuru Design classic, the Stoolen is crafted from recycled offcuts that are carefully hand-fitted into a unique pattern. In this original conception of the design, circa 2005, the pieces are fitted inside of a reclaimed bicycle rim. Unlike the newer editions, the pieces of wood go through the whole piece, for a very solid, heavy construction. The Stoolen works well as an end table, stool, or side table.
Designed by Bill Hilgendorf.
The Stoolen is featured in the cafe lobby of the New Museum, in downtown NYC.
This piece was part of the Block Party exhibition featuring the work of 42 designers and 25 artists, all Brooklyn based. The image of the artist's feature in the brochure is attached.
