Oil paintings on canvas with a dark background and finely defined flowers, these baroque still lifes of the Italian school are characterized by a well-balanced composition. The composition is well-balanced, arranged in a pyramidal pattern with various flowers in a vase, fruit at the base, and birds at the top. Typical of the 17th-century period, floral still lifes included the study and depiction of plants of all kinds, including fantasy plants. The colors are warm, with shades of red and white without contrast, all extremely delicate and soft.
These beautiful Italian still lifes from the mid-1600s are created with an abundance of flowers and flowing leaves. The floral composition is extremely exuberant and skillfully assembled, gathering different flowers in a single bouquet.
The decorative purpose is enhanced by the variety of flowers painted; Peonies, roses, tulips, carnations, and multicolored wildflowers are found, as well as unreal, invented, and imaginary flowers. In these antique Italian floral compositions, the flowers are the true protagonists in the foreground, while everything else, like the nondescript brass vase and the square tabletop, is revealed.
This pair of antique floral still lifes, Italian in style, dates back to the mid-17th century and features old restorations and imperfections, but is in good condition. They were relined and stretched about seventy years ago, and pictorial retouching was carried out at that time. They are presented unframed. They come from a private collection in Milan. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
