This sculptural earthenware vase embodies the refined yet slightly rustic character that defines Upsala Ekeby ceramics of the late 1930s and early 1940s. The form features a rounded, generously swelling body rising to a short, gently flared neck. Two symmetrically applied loop handles extend gracefully from the shoulder, lending architectural balance and a classical amphora-like presence. The glaze is particularly striking, displaying an iridescent metallic surface with deep bronze tones overlaid by luminous turquoise-green and verdigris hues. The painterly transitions in color create a rich sense of depth and movement across the surface, reminiscent of aged metal patina. The handles are finished in a warm golden-ochre glaze, providing a subtle yet sophisticated contrast. As with many Upsala Ekeby pieces of this period, natural variations in the glaze make each example unique.
