This compact storage chest was traditionally used in northern China for preserving vegetables, grains, and prepared foods. The slatted top and interior rack allow for airflow, while the locking door and enclosed form protect contents from pests.
Constructed in solid elm with secondary woods, the cabinet features a warm honey-toned patina with visible hand-planed surfaces and natural age-related wear. The interior retains traces of original red-toned lacquer, a traditional finish used for durability and protection.
The front door is fitted with a working latch and metal escutcheon, and the interior slat system remains intact. Its sculptural, cube-like proportions make it highly versatile for contemporary interiors—ideal as a side table, nightstand, or accent storage piece. See less
