The plate is part of a series inspired by John Keats' poetry, specifically his poem Endymion, which begins with the line "A thing of beauty is a joy forever". Incolay Studios of California, a company known for handcrafted items made from "Incolay Stone," a complex combination of natural minerals and coupling agents that can reproduce detailed, high-relief (cameo) sculpture. The studio permanently closed in 1978, which adds to the item's vintage collector status. This plate is sculpted and signed by Gayle Bright Appleby.
