Rs associates from montreal was a major name in the canadian design world in the 1950s and 60s. They were masters at translating the modern, sleek danish style to the north american living room. While many factories at the time switched to mass production, rs associates remained true to genuine craftsmanship and high-quality woods. Because the firm focused primarily on its own market back then, their furniture is a rare sight on the european mainland. This particular piece, therefore, has a remarkable journey behind it: the table was taken to germany by a canadian soldier while he was stationed there. After several moves and years of loyal service, it was time for a new chapter, making this unique piece now available in europe. The side table itself is a beautiful example of their style: sleek, elegant, and with that typical 'mid-century' look. The tabletop is beautifully shaped and features refined, beveled edges that make it appear to almost float. The legs taper narrowly towards the bottom, giving the table that characteristic airy look. A truly special feature of this model is the handy extra shelf beneath the tabletop. This magazine holder is not just a simple shelf, but is stylishly upholstered in black leather. This gives the table just that little extra edge; the contrast between the warm wood and the sleek, dark leather makes the design both bold and chic. In our workshop, we have thoroughly inspected the table and prepared it for many more years of enjoyment. To preserve the wood optimally, we have applied, among other things, a modern protective coating that shields the tabletop from grease, dirt, and moisture. Although slight signs of use are visible here and there, befitting the age and rich history of the furniture, they are never obtrusive. We would like to specifically mention a repair carried out on the tabletop in the 1970s by a furniture maker from the military base, which resulted in slight discoloration near the repair; please see the photos. The result is a characterful design piece ready to become the focal point of your living room once again.
