This Japanese kazaridana from the 1930s elegantly combines storage and display in one harmonious piece of furniture.
Dimensions: height 108 cm, width 101 cm, depth 34 cm.
The cabinet has a beautiful asymmetrical layout with open shelves and enclosed storage, giving it an airy and balanced appearance. Its modest depth keeps the piece elegant and easy to place, even in narrower spaces, entrance halls, dining rooms, or a calm shop or gallery setting.
What stands out immediately is the warm honey-brown tone of the wood and the lively grain pattern, which remains beautifully visible throughout the piece.
The upper cornice with its slightly upturned ends gives the cabinet a refined silhouette, while the rounded uprights and recessed framing create a soft, carefully finished look.
The composition is particularly well considered. At the top is an enclosed compartment with four finely crafted sliding panels, each decorated with delicate carved details. At the lower left is a cupboard section with two recessed-panel doors, also carved with motifs of pine trees, bamboo, and landscape elements. On the right and through the centre, the open shelves create rhythm and lightness. These open sections are framed by small pierced side galleries and subtle openwork details, while the lower drawer provides additional practical storage for smaller objects.
This kazaridana works especially well as a display cabinet for ceramics, lacquerware, small sculptures, tea utensils, ikebana, or other art objects, while serving just as well as a functional storage piece with character.
The condition is very good. The cabinet presents as well cared for, sturdy, and functional, with a fresh appearance and a natural elegance that fits beautifully in both classical and more minimalist interiors. A refined Japanese tana with strong lines, subtle carving, and an elegant presence.
