The clear articulation of the front by vertical panels and ornamentally framed friezes lends the piece a calm, cohesive presence with balanced proportions. Historical context: For centuries, chests were a fundamental feature of middle-class and rural households, serving to store textiles, linens, or household goods. Around 1900, historicist forms with visible handwork and carved decoration experienced a revival in popularity, particularly in regionally focused workshops. The chest functioned both as storage and as a representative piece of furniture in the hallway, living room, or bedroom. Features – Continuous carved frieze below the lid with a fine ornamental motif – Wrought iron bands inside to stabilize the hinged lid.
