Few furniture designs are as instantly recognizable — or as enduringly chic — as the Barcelona table. This beautifully proportioned vintage example captures everything that makes the design so beloved: the sculptural X-form flat-bar chrome base, the thick glass top with its characteristic aqua-green depth, the generously rounded corners, and the clean, architectural minimalism that makes it at home in virtually any well-considered interior.
The base is brushed satin chrome flat-bar steel, four legs meeting in a precise X-stretcher — the same geometric logic Mies van der Rohe established in 1929 for the German Pavilion at the Barcelona International Exposition. The construction is solid and stable, with no wobble or looseness. Each leg terminates in a neat saddle bracket at the top, cradling the glass without visible hardware. The chrome has a lovely lived-in patina that reads as warm and authentic rather than worn.
The glass top is thick plate glass — roughly 3/4 inch — with the beautiful aqua-green tint that comes from the depth of quality glass, softly rounded corners, and a smooth polished edge all around. Light surface marks consistent with careful use over time, but no chips, cracks, or significant scratches. At 36 inches square and 16.5 inches high, the scale is slightly more intimate than the standard 40-inch Knoll version — making it a wonderfully practical choice for most living room configurations.
This piece carries no maker's markings, which places it among the many quality European and American manufacturers who produced Barcelona-style tables during the height of modernist design's popularity in the 1970s and 80s. It has the material weight and build quality of a serious production piece. Pairs beautifully with Barcelona chairs, Wassily chairs, Eames lounge seating, Florence Knoll sofas, or any modernist or contemporary upholstered seating.
A true modernist classic that will anchor a room with elegance and effortless style.
