The triangular base of this 26-inch bronze patinated lamp supports a tapering three-sided obelisk bisected by a brass sphere. Dual sockets with individual pull-chain switches are attached with bent brass rods.
The sphere atop a three-sided obelisk (or trylon) signifies eternity or the meeting of heaven (sphere) and earth (trylon). One of the most recognized uses of these fundamental geometrical forms was at the 1939 World's Fair entrance with a 700-feet-high Trylon (symbol of the Fair’s lofty purpose) and 200-feet-diameter Perisphere. Mid-century design such as the Swedish Funkis (functionalism) and German Bauhaus modernist movements rejected 19th-century heavy ornamentation in favor of clean lines and simple geometric shapes.
Dimensions: pyramid base is 8 in on each side, lamp height to top of bowl is 17 in and to top of shade is 26 in. Shade is 17 in diameter x 8.5 in high.
