Introducing a splendid vintage armchair designed in the manner of Lawrence Peabody's iconic dining chairs. Featuring a bentwood frame, similar to those of Thonet's now iconic bentwood catalogue, this chair's only marking was a tag dated "05/31/1958" and was likely produced by a small furniture maker or built as a custom set. Left in it's original condition the frame consists of solid birch wood, gently bent at the leg mid-points creating an elegant hourglass shape. The original tobacco-toned vinyl upholstery, nailed by hand into the frame, shows the wear of something once loved and utilized yet has withstood the test of time. Both the upholstery and birchwood retain character-rich patina throughout creating an altogether alluring chair that captures the eye and attention in any room it inhabits.
Simultaneously comfortable and minimalist this armchair is perfect behind a desk or as a stand alone accent chair this piece can blend seamlessly against a myriad of design backdrops from Mid-Century Modern to Industrial to Space Age and everything in between. Seemingly the organic amalgamation of both Peabody and Thonet design elements this 50's era, hand-made chair is a testament to Mid-Century American craftsmanship.
