Commissioned … Read more A ceramic amphora-form liqueur vessel produced by Denbac, France, in the 1950s for the iconic French spirits brand Cointreau. Commissioned as a branded serving or display piece, this tall and narrow earthenware pitcher merges commercial utility with the fluid design sensibility of Art Nouveau pottery. The vessel draws on classical antiquity in form, with a flared rim, long neck, and rounded body elevated on a narrow foot. Two slender looped handles rise vertically to meet the shoulder. The body is finished in a warm, satin-matte orange glaze, while the upper neck and rim are treated in a contrasting drip glaze of deep olive and dark brown, typical of Denbac’s post-war palette. A band of impressed circular detailing encircles the shoulder, subtly breaking up the glaze flow and referencing earlier Denbac stoneware motifs. Though Denbac’s artistic peak occurred in the early 20th century, this later piece still reflects the studio’s characteristic material approach—particularly its emphasis on naturalistic glazes and soft, sculptural silhouettes. The base bears a stamped Denbac mark in black underglaze. Originally used to house Cointreau’s orange liqueur, this piece now serves equally well as a decorative vase, sculptural form, or conversation object for the bar or shelf.

Condition: Very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks; minor surface wear to the glaze commensurate with age and use.
