This Murano glass bowl in lattimo and aventurine, produced in Italy circa 1960, is a refined example of mid-century Italian art glass. Formed in opaque white lattimo—Murano’s traditional milk glass—and encased in a clear crystal layer, the bowl demonstrates depth and luminosity characteristic of Venetian sommerso techniques. The interior features an abstract composition of multicolored glass elements arranged in fluid, painterly gestures. Ribbon-like forms in vivid hues move freely across the surface, while subtle aventurine inclusions introduce delicate copper shimmer. The interplay between opaque lattimo and transparent casing enhances both contrast and dimensionality. Although unsigned, the palette, use of lattimo, and experimental decorative approach are consistent with Murano production of the 1950s and 1960s and align stylistically with work associated with Fratelli Toso.
The bowl measures approximately 6 inches (15.2 cm) in diameter, 5 inches (12.7 cm) in depth, and 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) in height. It remains in good vintage condition, with light surface wear to the polished base consistent with age and use. A few tiny fleabites are present, likely originating from the original firing process. A sculptural Murano art glass bowl suitable as a centerpiece or as part of a curated collection of mid-century Italian glass.
